It was a horrific event, and its legacy is with us, but it was always with us according to our technology. Now our technology surpasses the majority's ability to love. I wonder how that imbalance should be treated. It would be well worth our time to ask. “Jesus said, ‘If you bring forth what is within you, what you have will save you. If you do not have that within you, what you do not have within you [will] kill you.’” (Thos. 70) There’s a lot here that needs reflection, context and prayer.
