It's only recorded from the 17th century onwards and it's situated right next to an old monastery site. I can't believe that a massive club wielding phallus on legs sat on the hillside with no mention until the 1600's. old farmer "verily upon yonder hillside I havest just realised that those rude chalk markings look just like a man waving his John Thomas in the breeze".
